What are your goals, visions, and aspirations? What do you think is standing in your way?
I often ask myself these very same questions. Given that this is about when many of us fall off the wagon with our new year’s resolutions, it is a good time to reconnect with your vision for the year and inquire.
When it comes to getting results in life, the most successful people in the world have some things in common.
- The have let go of the baggage from their past
- They always have empowering goals
- They stay in action toward those goals
- They have made habits out of their powerful actions
- They have STOPPED making excuses
We all want to practice excellence and succeed at the things we do. The best thing we can learn to do is to model excellence.
The people who are succeeding at the things you aspire to do, don’t have some magical mystical power that you don’t, they are in consistent and persistent ACTION.
How do they stay that way? The have relinquished their reasons and they are focused on results!
I say this to you from a space of cultivating and practicing these skills myself. As much as I teach/coach these things, I am always working on them myself. So
]\we are in this together.
Recently I got a newsletter from Marie Forleo. If you don’t know her, you should. She is a powerhouse woman in the world of personal growth and business who is inspiring thousands of people every day find their unique voice and share their special gift with the world.
In her newsletter, she got into the pitfalls of making excuses.
It reminded me of the one of the themes of NLP, Empowerment or Cause and Effect.
The idea is, owning that your reality is your interpretation and giving up your reasons so you can focus on your result.
We all do it. We say we want to make positive changes like go to the gym everyday, eat healthier, start dating again, spend more time with our families etc.
We set our sights on those goals and then as soon as we get into action, we are met with…life. Every obstacle we encounter becomes a reason or more accurately an excuse about why we aren’t following through.
Here are just a few:
I’m too busy with work
I didn’t get enough sleep
I didn’t have time to cook
I missed the class I wanted to take/My favorite teacher wasn’t teaching
I don’t like online dating
Or just I don’t_________enough (fill in know or have)____________(fill in your go to. i.e. money, time, knowledge, friends, clothes, etc.)
I mean I could keep going and they would all be some version of things that we have said to ourselves at one point or another.
Bottom line, they are ALL excuses. If we boil it down, even our best most well crafted reason can get blown out of the water when you look at people who overcome the most insurmountable odds to achieve their goals.
Scroll to the link at the bottom for some remarkable examples. Again, the only difference is they don’t let reasons get in their way.
So, I ask you this, are you more committed to your reasons, or are you ready to start getting results?
I have to remind myself every day and I have coaches, mentors, friends, and family that remind me too. It takes committing, then recommitting, then recommitting again.
It takes consistent and persistent action even when you don’t see the immediate rewards. It takes keeping your eye on the goal and forging ahead like you are unstoppable because in truth, you are.
The other thing successful people have in their lives is support. In this amazing journey of life, we can go it alone for only so long. We are hard-wired for connection and when we have support, guidance, and accountability, it is way easier to stay the course.
How can I support you?
